Something very intriguing to me is the struggle we may have in reading the Bible. It can be challenging to read. Not because it's hard. I think it's a spiritual battle. I think that's why we can read anything from social media posts or blogs but when it comes to Bible reading it's challenging.
If you struggle reading the Bible I want to let you know something. It's ok. It's ok to struggle. I get it. I want you to know another thing. Don't give up! Just because it's hard doesn't mean that you should stop. I have a passion for getting people to read Scripture. That is why I always try to get people to download the Bible app. We almost always have our phones on us!
With the YouVersion Bible app, you can read a Bible reading plan with friends! This is an exciting thing. Right now I am reading the Bible with more people than ever. The Bible app is a cool idea because I know people around me are reading the Bible. I admit though, I still get out my physical Bible and read. (I still like to have a physical Bible). If you don't want to get another app you can go to Bible.com to get in on the action.
Practical Steps to Cultivate the Habit of Bible Reading
Establish a Routine:
Set aside a specific time each day for Bible reading. Whether it's in the morning before starting your day or at night before bed, consistency is key to forming a habit.
Choose a Reading Plan:
Select a reading plan that works for you, whether it's reading a chapter a day, following a thematic study, or using a guided devotional. Having a structured approach can provide direction and focus.
Create a Quiet Space:
Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can immerse yourself in scripture without distractions. This could be a cozy corner in your home, a peaceful outdoor setting, or a designated quiet time during your day.
Take Notes and Reflect:
As you read, jot down key passages, insights, questions, or reflections in a journal. Engaging with the text actively can deepen your understanding and help you apply its teachings to your life.
Incorporate Prayer:
Pair your Bible reading with prayer. Invite God to speak to you through His word, open your heart to receive His message, and respond in prayerful reflection.
I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you. -- Psalms 119:11 (CSB)
